Politics... syet... iba 'to ah
Every single day for the past week or so, all I get to see and hear in the newspaper headlines, daily news and the radio show my grandparents listen to every morning is politics. Politics. Politics. Politics. It’s all about that and to be honest I’m sick and tired of seeing and hearing this practically everywhere.
But I really don’t see the valid point in this. The first question I have is why does the Administration and the Opposition need to fight over who won the elections, tell whether the evidences (the blasted tapes) are authentic or not and all that crap? Just tonight I heard about the “Court of the People” thing that the anti-GMA people were organizing. Hell, why is there a need to have an administration and opposition anyway?? Why can’t they all just work together so that our countrymen can receive the benefits that the government is supposed to give the people? Why can’t they just cooperate with each other and stop all the finger pointing? I really don’t understand...
Furthermore, it’s not only that. It’s not just the politicians, heavens no. I also keep on hearing all these accusations aimed at different politicians and personalities. Accusations like “She took the money intended for this and instead used it for some personal thing,” sounds familiar? Yeah, but one thing the people who throw these accusations don’t explain to their listeners is the rationality of their accusations. Where did they find the grounds to claim these accusations? And why do they keep on blurting it out to the public ONLY? If they have evidences to prove their claim, then why don’t they just submit the whole thing -accusations, evidences and all- to the Ombudsman so that his office can properly do their work? Instead of doing these legal means to solve the problem, they take the fight to the streets, hoping to gain support from the people. By taking this issue to the streets alone, we will only ensure one thing: slowly kill the potential of our country. Yes we have the right to protest in the streets, but what do the protesters do? They do not get the permit, or they don’t follow the permit’s assigned limits.
And it’s not just them. All of us are at fault here even though a lot of us are doing nothing. That’s the point; the people who are doing nothing are also at fault precisely because they’re not doing their part in solving the issue. I too am at fault here.
But I’m just a (fill in the blank), what can I do? That was my excuse to myself. But hey, I have a voice, insignificant as it may be to other people. I don’t hold a position of authority or anything. I’m a just a college freshman. But if al those voices gather up and say the same thing at the same time, then, it’s a different thing.
As I see it, the one real change EVERY ONE of us needs is not a change in the leader or change in the system but a change in morals. If we just stop thinking about the “I” and start thinking about the “others” then all these issues will gradually be solved.
*Holy shit, I can’t believe I wrote this… haha, well if this offends anyone, sorry, but hey, I’m entitled to have my own opinion right?**Pardon the post, I’m just ranting here, hehehe… promise, the next post will be closer to home, hehehehe :)
